I did a photoshoot on Saturday, it's been a while since the previous one. This was one lucky photoshoot, I have to say! My sister had found a gorgeous gown from a yard sale and got it for me, and it fit me. A friend had moved abroad and donated her wonderful headdresses for me, and there happened to be one that was perfect with the dress. Another friend suggested the spot, which turned out to be awesome. When we shot, it began to rain as soon as we started driving away from the location.<br />
<br />
The photos will take a while, but I wanted to show you my make-up, hair and the headdress! The chains are a bit tangled, but I think it still looks pretty. These were taken after I got home from the shoot, so please allow for some wear and tear.<br />

Stockholm was good to me! The previous time I was there, I looked at this Too Faced x Kat von D set that was slightly discounted, but decided not to get it. It bugged me later, and I decided to go look the next time in Sephora if they still had it. Not only did they, but it was even cheaper! So I just had to buy it :><br />

I think the set was well worth the money. I paid around 27 euros for the set on discount, and even the Tattoo Liner alone would have cost about 20 euros. The mascara I sold, as my eyes water easily and water soluble mascara is really not an option. I've been using the Too Faced side of the palette quite a lot, and the Kat von D side looks very usable for evening and club looks too. I really like the design of the palette and the magnetic connection. Easy to use, nice looking and the shades are great!<br />

I bought this one from Vancouver. I always use lip liner when I wear traditional wax-based lipsticks, to get more wear out of them. My go-to liners are Mac lip pencils, but occasionally I use an OCC liner or a Nyx one. The Mac liners are very dry (I mostly use Nightmoth and Cyberworld) and stay on my lips well. Kat von D's liner is very different. Where the Macs, Nyxs and OCCs are waxy and will eventually melt, the Everlasting Lip Liner goes on just like a wax based liner, but then sets and stays on much better. Much like the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, it is very resistant to smudging and can be removed only with oil-based cleansers (or actual oil).<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Homegirl was my choice of shade, as I just never get bored of dark reds! I own a lot of dark red lipsticks so the shade works with many lipsticks, but I also do my brows with lip liner so I wanted a shade that works also for that. I have to say that for brows the liner sets a little bit too fast. I would need more time to work the pencil. The skin on my forehead is also much more oily than on my lips, so the liner doesn't stay quite as well as on lips, but it's still very good.</div>

This is Nyx Lip Suede in Subversive Socialite, used with the matching lipliner. The liner looks a bit lighter on my lips than the Suede, but works well for fixing the outlines to get a very precise application with crisp borders. Usually liners tend to melt a bit on my lips and smudge, but this one is not very prone to it, possibly with the liquid to matte Suede keeping it free of any oils.<br />

The shade is gorgeous, very me! I love my dark purple and Subversive Socialite is right up my alley. It's a plum purple, red based. On my lips the staying power is very good. While there is slight crumbling in the middle of the lips, the shade stays very nice for 5+ hours without touching it up. So it's not only beautiful, but also does what it's supposed to do. Perfect!</div>

I love technology and new gadgets, and I always need to have a project or two going on to not feel bored. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy lounging on the couch and taking walks, but I'm happiest when at the same time I can ponder on something. So here's a list of my latest crazes, tell me yours!<br />
<br />
1. Apple Watch & Pokemon Go<br />
<br />
I love new toys, and the Watch is one of them. I had been looking into smart watches for a while, and just when I was decided on getting a Pebble, the company was sold with no clear information on if support for the watches will continue. Luckily a few weeks later Pokemon Go announced the game will also work on the Apple Watch so I immediately went and ordered one ;D I love Pokemon Go, it's the perfect excuse for me to get some exercise while not feeling like exercising. I just plain hate exercising, but achievements, gaming and exploration work well for me, so I know I can trick myself into moving more by using games.<br />
<br />
If you are not familiar with Pokemon Go, it's a location based game of collecting pokemon. It uses real world maps and requires you to actually travel to locations to be able to catch the pokemon there. You can also hatch pokemon eggs by walking. A big part is asking around for where certain pokemon appear so you know where to go to catch the ones you want or need. It was a huge hit when it came out last summer and I've been playing it ever since. I even bought a new phone cover to keep my iPhone from freezing during the winter ;D<br />
<br />
2. Airplants<br />
<br />
A plant without the hassle of soil that cats can then big up and spread around the apartment? YES PLEASE. I'm bad with plants, but airplants are not watered traditionally, but can be sprayed or let soak in a bowl for moisture. They look super cool and you can basically put them anywhere. I've got two glass globes to hang, because that way the kitties can't steal the plants. I'm totally sure one of the silly animals would just grab a plant and run if they had the chance.<br />
<br />
I ordered a selection of plants from Spain and can't wait for the package to arrive! If it takes long, I think I have to go and buy one airplant locally just to get past this excitement.<br />

<br />
3. Photoshoots<br />
<br />
Last year I didn't have much time for photoshoots and the beginning of this year has mainly consisted of running around the world, but now I finally have time! My closet is bursting with cool outfits and I have many ideas for locations!<br />
<br />

<br />
4. Videogames<br />
<br />
Well, it might be a bit obvious that I like games, but now that I got a new computer finally and some time, I can play all the games I've been saving for the indefinite "later". Later is now! My favourites are tycoon games, god games and then on the other end of the spectrum story-driven games, adventure games and RPGs. Open world, platformers and shooters rarely catch my attention, but I'm willing to try anything. Date games seem especially interesting! Any recommendations?Karoliinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06188827517099416861noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706845667701969479.post-89276529668765254622017-05-22T18:53:00.000+03:002021-02-10T17:53:44.313+02:00Sugarpill Dark LipsticksI tried to resist these babies for a long time, saying to myself that I have many dark purple lipsticks and that I barely use wax-based lipsticks anyway. Well, then Sugarpill had a sale, and the glittery packaging just overwhelmed me and I ended up ordeting two lipsticks anyway ;D But just look at that glittery goodness!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEaNKmsh2yNrnQdAovHko_jXQ3fq1DDgwV64ujmIV3YhKWAeEsn-JW93ijQFvt597soTqFArPHth3giBeMvYJLgSl-ns2epkduPMCA45ROzzBtfh8W3gyfM5wZhgpxgZ-ZOLTXKcU2gZj_/s1600/DSC_0385.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="292" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEaNKmsh2yNrnQdAovHko_jXQ3fq1DDgwV64ujmIV3YhKWAeEsn-JW93ijQFvt597soTqFArPHth3giBeMvYJLgSl-ns2epkduPMCA45ROzzBtfh8W3gyfM5wZhgpxgZ-ZOLTXKcU2gZj_/s320/DSC_0385.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was already swooning for the pink and white packaging, bit when white switched to black for the Darkside collection, I almost knew I couldn't resist. I'm a highly visual person, I want my surroundings and belongings to please my eye. I would probably choose something visually pleasing with a slightly worse performance over something that looked ugly to me but was more efficient. I'm willing to pay extra for beautiful packaging and special colours. Especially if there's glitter involved!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So that's why I ended up owning Sugarpill's Anti-Socialite and Darksided lipsticks. I do love dark lipsticks (<a href="https://bonesandlilies.blogspot.fi/2017/02/i-always-fall-for-your-kind-aka-million.html">just see this post and you will understand how far my obsession goes</a>) and Cyber is my favourite Mac lipstick, so these two were easy choices. The line also has a plain black and a dark blue, but I have found my perfect black lippie and blue I simply do not wear.</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sugarpill Anti-Socialite</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Anti-Socialite is a dark rusty red. You can layer it a bit, to get a lighter or darker shade. In my picture it looks too light. The tone is fairly neutral, I can't say if it's cool or warm. A very nice and easy colour to wear for many skintones.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Darksided is a dark purple. Despite my worries that it would be a match for Mac Cyber, it's not even close. Darksided is way brighter and more blue. A true purple, I would say. It's not plum but a plain, nice purple, just the way I like it!</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE5HPbfTRgpL1eOOo_bS2BWPx4CuZAL5C8pKq0m3ETSU40FmoqHUIfl87U2HisjPXCqclzp-s7tG9VIcHmK2hdIQ36ud0kqXgNPCtqLrXEDCxwsRf6YgwcFHW5FPfU6G6GQF5uhrLV_-hb/s1600/DSC_0399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="442" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE5HPbfTRgpL1eOOo_bS2BWPx4CuZAL5C8pKq0m3ETSU40FmoqHUIfl87U2HisjPXCqclzp-s7tG9VIcHmK2hdIQ36ud0kqXgNPCtqLrXEDCxwsRf6YgwcFHW5FPfU6G6GQF5uhrLV_-hb/s640/DSC_0399.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">From left to right: Sugarpill Anti-Socialite, Sugarpill Darksided, Mac Cyber and Urban Decay Pandemonium.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Here's a side by side comparison with some lipsticks I though might be close to Darksided. Mac Cyber looks like a blend between Anti-Socialite and Darksided, it's a lot more plum toned than Darksided. Urban Decay has lots of great purples in their new lipstick line, but Pandemonium looked like the closest match, but it's not at all close. So yay, I managed to buy a purple lipstick that does not look like my other purple lipsticks, go me!<br />
<br />
I have to say I am happy I got these lipsticks. I've been using wax-based lippies to touch up liquid-to-mattes during the day, as they moisturize better and don't create the crumbling effect that sometimes happens when you try to add some more liquid-to-matte to the center of the lips and end up with a too thick layer. And just looking at the glittery packaging makes me happy!Karoliinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06188827517099416861noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706845667701969479.post-50207698566912463362017-05-21T22:51:00.000+03:002021-02-10T17:53:44.419+02:00Better Together Cheek and Lip Makeup Bag SetI have many small pouches inside my large handbag to make it easy to find things. When they are in pouches and not floating all around the bag, my life is easier. That being said, when I saw the Better Together make-up collection that Kat von D and Too Faced made in collaboration, I just had to have the set with the super cute make-up bag! I love glitter and sphinx cats, so what could be better than a tiny bag with both? I resisted buying this for a long time, but when it was on sale at the Stockholm Sephora, I grabbed it.<br />

The products are all mini sized. I understand that for some people they may seem weird, as they really are tiny, but I just love small things so they look super cute to me. Sometime small blushes are tricky to use if you can't get them on a large brush evenly, but I have not found this to be a problem with the blush or highlighter in this set. It could be after there's a dent in the blush, possibly then it might be hard to reach with a brush. I don't know if the highlighter is supposed to be used as two separate shades, but I've just swirled it all together. It's not too shimmery, but quite subtle, which I like.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
XO is the liquid to matte lipstick and it's a very stunning red. Blue based and bold, the classic red I'd say! Muse is quite the opposite, a muted brown-red, very natural and easy to wear.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of this set, the blush has become my favourite. It's a cool red, which works very well on my skintone, and it has just the right amount of pigment for my use. I want my blush to show a bit, not be just a flush of colour. Muse has been the trickiest one to use, but that's mostly because I don't wear wax-based lipsticks that often, they are just too high maintenance for me. For the discounted price of about 19 euros this felt like really good value for my money. For full price the products are too tiny and feel too plastic-y, and the bag is quite small. But yay for the glitter and the cute little nekkid kitty!</div>

This is my fifth week of at least one trip abroad per week. After I get home on Monday, I'll just lounge on the sofa with my husband and kitties and enjoy being home. I've been to Stockholm, Vancouver, Brno and now Stockholm again, then southern Sweden on Monday. I love traveling and seeing the world, and always think that you have to strike while the iron is hot, so as long as I am booked to do presentations, I will do them. In time this will pass and I'll settle back to normal office hours and I do enjoy that too. I work as a game designer, being creative and coming up with both solutions to problems and new kinds of features is my job. Doing presentations is what I do on the side, as I enjoy public talking and like to tell of the awesome work we do at the office.<br />

I have to say Stockholm has become one of my favourite cities. I've been there three times this year already, two of the visits being for pleasure. Lots of wonderful museums, and most of them are free, delicious food and decently priced easy-to-use public transportation. Now that EU is banishing the roaming charges, moving around is so much easier as I no longer need to rely on offline maps or finding an open wifi. That and I can play Pokemon Go where I want ;D<br />

London is my other favourite! I got to visit it a week before my five week travel streak. It had been years since my last visit, but London just has that unique charm that always draws me back. It was a business trip, but I had more free time than usually, so I managed to squeeze in a visit to Tower Hamlets cemetery, a Jack the Ripper walk and the Jack the Ripper museum, since I was staying in Whitechapel. I've been planning a trip to go see the Victorian cemetaries around London, and Tower Hamlets is one of them, so one off my list! It was a beautiful place, although it suffered badly in the Second World War and looks more like a park nowadays. The beautiful old gravestones and monuments looked oddly fitting in the midst of the nature at springtime, with flowers budding, trees with small leaves and singing birds all around.<br />

I have a long list of places I want to visit: the viking museum in Oslo, Iceland with more time than on my last visit, Prague because I loved the Czech Republic, Spain because I've never been there, Edinburgh just because, Dublin because I want to see the neolithic mound that was closed the last time I was there...<br />
<br />
But being home is also wonderful <3<br />

What's inside, you ask? I brand new black harnessed top with <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/517468734/mystic-master-black-hand-painted-ladies?ref=shop_home_feat_4">Mystic Master design</a>! What Vaiva does is that she uses the same sketch, but paints each picture by hand, so no two are similar. I'm really a big fan of painting by hand, I went to art school and have a soft spot for the extra work that goes into painting. Unique pieces with personal touches by the artist are wonderful! The themes of the designs are occult and nature related, and have Vaiva's touch on them, creating a lovely mystical atmosphere. I love forests and am interested in old pagan traditions of nature worship, so I feel like there designs speak to me. There is something very Nordic in them.<br />

<br />
I paired the top with a long flowing skirt, a faux leather jacket and a faux leather harness. It is very comfortable to wear, nice soft fabric, and the painting feels like it will last for a long time. The black and white design is easy to pair with almost anything, but if black is not your thing, you can order this same design in many different colours, and the print can be done in different colours as well. I ordered the top in M just to make sure it would not be too snug, but the sizing is quite generous, no need go a size up. Especially with this top, I think it might look even better if it was a tiny bit tighter, but I'll just take it in a bit when I have the time :)<br />

While the design is hand painted, it's doesn't require any extra care. I'm super lazy with high maintenance clothing, so I am very happy about this. You can wash the top in the machine inside out and even tumble dry on low heat.<br />

I really love the harness detail on the top, it's the perfect addition to the slight sheen of the fabric and the lovely rough painting style. Not only is the packaging gorgeous and tickles my aesthetic preferences, the products are very high quality. I've been traveling a lot so the products in this post have been bought from Sephora in San Francisco and Debenhams in London. The liquid lipsticks have been my go-to product for a long time, but now I'm extending my Kat von D collection to other products too.<br />

The Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad has been on my want list for a long time. I like simple palettes that can do light smoky eyes and more neutral looks with just a shaded crease. This Quad in Plum is one of those very easy to use shades on my complexion and the shades compliment my green-blue eyes. I wrote a full review here.</div>

The Lock-it Setting Powder is a new product, I had not seen if before I came across it at Debenhams. I had been unhappy with my powder, the NYX HD powder is just not for my skin type or does not like the BB-cream I use for foundation. So I definitely needed a new one, and without even checking out any reviews, picked this one up. Luckily it works really well on me and I think there's enough for the rest of my life, the jar is HUGE ;D The sales person gave me a tip that the sealing sticker should not be fully removed, as the holes in the sifter are so big. It was an excellent piece of advice, as four holes open gives enough powder and makes using easy, as I can swirl my brush on the sifter.</div>

Then one of the coolest palettes I own, the Alchemy palette! I have to admit I have not used it yet very much, just for the occasional inner corner highlight or lightly brushed on cheek bones, but just owning this wonderful item makes me happy <3 Just the hologram print and the triangle shape are super cool! I have been so busy I have not had the free time to wear wacky eyeshadow, but I will definitely give this palette more love once I'm home more.</div>

The Alchemy palette has four shades. All are pale shades with an intense metallic sheen/shift. Conveniently the shift colours are marked on the palette, as it is a bit difficult to see the sheen in the pan, it comes out much better on skin. The photos of the pans look lame, and the sheen is quite difficult to capture on camera, but the effect is gorgeous.</div>

Actually I have had not had the time to take pictures of the latest thing from Kat von D I bought, which is one of the new lip liners I hauled back from Vancouver. It's sitting at home on my vanity in its package, just waiting for the time to give it a go! (And then there's the Better Together items I found on discount in the Stockholm Sephora, so plenty of posts to come!)</div>

This one is called The Ultimatte, and it's a Milani Amore Matte Metallic Lip Crème, what a mouthful! The shade is basically a cool dark pink with a metallic sheen. A simple and easy colour, and looks great with my skin tone. The product looks a bit darker in the tube, but on my lips this is the perfect tone. They staying power is amazing, I barely have to touch it up once or twice during an eight hour work day with lunch.<br />

The Ultimatte is one of the newest shades in the range. I picked mine up from a CVS at San Francisco. It looks like the Nordic online shops don't yet carry this shade, but I hope they will get the new ones, as I'd love to try the other shades as well. </div>

Lets see if my matte lipstick obsession will move towards the metallics, as more appear. So far I only have this one and a metallic Velvetine from Lime Crime, and both look gorgeous. While matte finishes allow you to shape your lips easily, the metallics make lips look more plump and are maybe a little bit less drying than mattes. I still love the liquid-to-matte formula that makes the lippie stay in place with no smudging or feathering. This is the best of both worlds!Karoliinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06188827517099416861noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706845667701969479.post-86929385382313108832017-04-10T19:32:00.002+03:002021-02-10T17:53:45.042+02:00Sugarpill TrinketI'm a big fan of Sugarpill products, as you might already know. When they came out with liquid to matte lipsticks, I just had to try them out! I have so far tried three: Trinket (pictured here), Kim Chi and Strange Love, the lippie from Sugarpill's Valentine's set. Kim Chi was insanely hard to get to work with my skin tone, and Strange Love wasn't as dark on me as in the shop pictures, so those two have gone to new loving homes.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Trinket has stuck, and maybe you can see why. The shade is very unique, a peachy pink with golden glitter. In my pics the lipstick is freshly applied, but the glitter becomes more obvious with wear. Trinket leans towards orange on me, but it just somehow works amazingly.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The golden glitter makes the shade appear more orange than the peachy base on its own. It's still not too orange, but just the perfect golden peachy blush shade that is hard to capture and describe. The formula is very nice, lightweight and stays forever. I'm not a big fan of the truffle scent, but it doesn't linger long on the lips, so I can live with that. For some reason the printed markings on my tube seem to fade very fast when I keep the lipstick in my bag or a pocket. They don't stand as much wear as what I'm used to with lippies. It's a minor issue, but makes the tube look a but untidy.</div>

Trinket is very easy to apply and I don't need to touch it up in hours. It is a bit demanding on the eye make-up, I would maybe not do very colourful looks to go with it since Trinket is so bright. I find this to be a good thing, as I can just put on mascara and add Trinket and be all ready to go. A lovely product!Karoliinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06188827517099416861noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706845667701969479.post-28142561399607237862017-04-08T20:34:00.003+03:002021-02-10T17:53:45.145+02:00Kat von D Shade + Light Plum Quad and Two LooksI had had my eye on the Shade + Light Plum Quad by Kat von D for some time, but since I didn't come across any lightly used previously owned ones, I picked one up from Debenhams at London. Plum shades usually work very well on my eyes, bringing out the green in them. For some reason this palette is quite tricky to get to show correctly in photos. I think it looks too red in my pictures, when IRL the two middle shades, especially the darker one, lean more towards purple.<br />

The shades don't seem to have names, so I'll call them by their use. Base is a pinkish beige, a bit darker than my skin but not much. Define is a deep plum, less red than in my pictures, but still with red undertones to make it nicely bring out green eyes. Contour is much like a darker version of base, but slightly more taupe and cool. Highlight is a very light warm pink. All of the are matte.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did two different looks with the palette so far. All of the shadows are very pigmented but are still easy to blend. With so much pigment you really need the base shade to use as help when blending out the edges of the darker shades. I often use the same brush and just lightly brush off the pigment to switch to another shade, but with these shades you really need to grab a new brush if you go for a lighter shade. The two middle ones are intense and dark.</div>

I'm still learning how to do make-up after the eye lift, but I'm pretty happy with my lids now! I don't have to bring the crease shadow as high up as I used to, so I have much more space for blending it out towards the brows. Also my lids is more visible, so it allows better use of light shades on the lid, instead of everything looking like a smoky eye when the hooded part of the lid fell over the moving lid to hide anything I put there.<br />
<br />
Naturally I wanted to try a smoky eye next!<br />

For the smoky eye look, I put higlight on the inner corner and brow bone. The I added countour on the whole lid and blended up with the help of base. I then put define on the lash line on both upper and lower lid, and just a touch in the crease. The lipstick is a metallic liquid-to-matte from Milani. The look is quite dark, but that's just how I like it!</div>

I would have wished for the shades to be even more red, to have a more stunning effect on my eyes. I have one ancient pressed eyeshadow that is just the right shade of plum to make my eyes look vividly green, but I have not been able to find anything that does the same. I still do like the Kat von D quad, it's easy to use, the highlight shade is good (I mention this because for some reason palettes rarely have light enough highlight shades for my pale skin) and you can do many kinds of looks with the four shades. The pigment is amazing and the texture of the shades is great, they are easy to blend and all the shades work well together. While this palette may not be the one I pick up for party looks, it is a very nice palette for sculpted matte looks and matte smoky eyes. </div>

When my eyes are open, the scars from the eye lift are hidden. I absolutely love it that I can finally do winged liner properly and use eyeliner pencils without them smudging! I have not yet put eyeshadow on, and the scars are a bit bumpy and red, but healing well.<br />

<br />
I got a couple of the new neutral Kat von D shades while in San Francisco and wanted to do a comparison with other similar shades in my collection. Beiges and browns are notoriously hard to get to look correct in photos, but I think I did a decent job with these. The pictures are taken in artificial light.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">From top to bottom: Make-Up Monsters Wolfsbane, Kat von D Sanctuary, Kat von D Hawkwind and Kat von D Lolita.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Sanctuary works excellent on my pale skin with yellow undertones. It is warmer and more red than Wolfsbane, but still more towards grey than Hawkwind or Lolita. Wolfsbane and Sanctuary look much more similar in the tube than on skin. Hawkwind and Lolita are very close to each other. I'd say Hawkwind is slightly darker and redder, but the difference is very small on my lips.<br />

Black Moon Cosmetics Wrath (this one has a satin finish, that's why it's shinier than the rest),<br />
Nyx Lip Lingerie 10 Teddy and Kat von D Crucifix.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Crucifix seems to be unique in my collection. The rest of my dark brownish tones are much more red than it. You can see that the Nyx Lip Lingerie is a lot thinner in consistency than the others, and Black Moon Cosmetics lippies are satin, not completely matte. The Sephora Cream Lip Stain looked like it could be a match to Crucifix in the tube, but on skin it's very different.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I really like all the shades I bough: Hawkwind, Sanctuary and Crucifix. They are very different from each other but each one is usable and the formula is simply awesome. Hawkwind especially is a very natural and easy shade to wear, on me it's one of those my-lip-but-better shades. Easy to apply, does not need major touching up, and wonderful shades. What more could you ask for?</div>

I needed something that would stay put for hours, look goth enough and hide the weird tuft of hair that is my old shaved side I'm now growing out. Anniina came up with this wonderful braid hair-do that works excellently in my thick hair!<br />

You will be seeing the scars up close in my future eye make-up pictures, but I'm hoping they will fade well. I have hereditary heavy lids, which with time would most likely have been so bad that they would hinder my sight. Within about 10-20 years I would have been able to get the surgery done by public health services, but I didn't feel like looking tired and having headaches due to straining my forehead for that long, so I had it done now. I'll most likely do a post on the procedure later. I just wanted to be honest with why I look a bit weird in these pics and make sure no one is worried, I'm absolutely fine! And I'd say for nine days after the surgery and no make-up on the incision area I look pretty decent ;P The liner looks like it's too far from my lashes, but that's just the swelling.</div>

<br />
I bought a Diamond Crushers lip topper from Urban Outfitters at San Francisco. The product seemed unique, I've never seen something like this, and even though the brand is not among my faves due to bad customer service, it felt safe enough to try a couple of products bought directly from a store.<br />
<br />
The lip toppers are meant to be worn as is on lips, on top of other lipstick, on cheeks as highlight and on brows, according to the Lime Crime site. I tried Choke on its own and on top of Kat von D liquid lipstick in Echo, which is a dark blue. I have the feeling I should have swiped the product on my fingers and patted it on my lips instead of applying straight from the wand on top of another lipstick. Applying with the wand resulted in a very thick application, even when I tried to pat it a bit to get the product to go on evenly. It did not melt the lipstick underneath, which is great. <br />
<br />
I have to say I'm a bit confused with the name, as it seems to be a plural.<br />

<span style="text-align: center;">In the tube Choke is light pink and shimmery. On its own the base is see-through and the glitter is lavender, pink and green, but seems to shift with the base colour. The doe foot applicator is bright pink, which made me first think that the product is bright pink too, but it seems to be just the colour of the fluffy end of the wand.</span><br />

Choke goes easily on bare lips and dries to a non-sticky finish. The glitter is intense and shows well and does not feather or otherwise escape to other areas, which is great! So the natural next step was to try Choke on top of another lipstick.<br />
<br />
On top of Echo, a dark blue, all the pink seems to vanish and Choke looks more silver and blue. It goes on quite thickly, but isn't too bad to wear.<br />

Even when layered on top of another lipstick Choke does not make my lips sticky, as the gif below tries to artfully demonstrate. You can press your lip together without the lipsticks shifting on transferring.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I like this product. It's very unique and I have a soft spot for all things glittery. I also own lots of liquid-to-matte lipsticks and these kinds of products might help me get some extra out of my collection! Choke does what it is supposed to do and gives me a way to wear glitter without having to fiddle with loose glitter and mixing liquids, and the finish is long lasting. I might even get this in another shade eventually!</div>

I love the formula and many older shades have been excellent on my complexion, so I did some shopping and ended up with Hawkwind, Sanctuary and Crucifix. Sanctuary was the one I was on edge about and almost passed it by. Now I'm so happy I didn't, as it is becoming my favourite of these three! Sanctuary looks a bit grey-ish in the tube, but on my lips it turns to more of a pinkish beige. Quite natural and very easy to wear, even if there's some wear in the middle, it's not obvious.<br />
<br />
The formula is once again great, stays well on my lips and does not feather or smudge. I feel these lipsticks are not as drying as most liquid-to-matte lipsticks. I use oil-based make-up remover to wipe the lipstick off.<br />
<br />
So here's Sanctuary freshly applied on pale skin with yellow undertones!<br />

I went on a business trip to San Francisco and the jet lag was devastating for a whole week, whew. Can't wait to try out all the new lipsticks I brought from the trip!<br />

In the meanwhile, here's more detailed pictures of the corset photoshoot look <a href="https://www.instagram.com/anniina_e/">Anniina_E</a> did. The hair-do is a high ponytail with the base wrapped and sections done with a crimping iron to give the hair more texture. In the back is a braided section. I kept the jewellery very small and unnoticeable, so the corset and make-up would be the things that really shine. The jewellery should not compete for attention in this shoot.</div>

It's been some time, I've been so busy with work and social life that I've neglected my dear hobby of getting pretty and being in front of a camera. Luckily Liisa from <a href="https://www.facebook.com/liisanihmemaassa/?fref=ts">Ihmemaassa</a> asked if I would be interested in doing a photoshoot in a made-to-measure corset. Yes. please!<br />
<br />
She created an awesome underbust piece with lovely pink and grey rococo style pattern and black satin, and a matching skirt to go with it. I bought the fabric so that I could make some accessories with the left overs from the sewing project. I insisted that I want to add some rhinestones to the corset, simply because I like working with the hotfix tool and it gets my mind off everything.<br />
<br />
This was quite a long project, as it took me some time to do cute little pasties and a little hat to match. We were in luck when I thought to ask my friend Anniina if she might be interested on doing make-up and hair for the shoot, and she did have the time to participate. I've only been to a couple of shoots where hair and make-up was provided and it feels like a luxury! I was proud to be the canvas to such talented people as Anniina and Liisa <3<br />
<br />
So, the pictures! We did some with a basic top on, so they can be used in many places easily, and a couple with just the bejewelled pasties I had made. I bit more revealing, but I think the wonderful shape of the corset needed some base skin to really bring it out.<br />

Usually cream shadows don't work well on my oily lids even with primer, but Lid Lingerie seemed more like a mousse with its very light consistency. Basically it's a mousse eyeshadow in a jar with a wand for application. I don't know how it is supposed to work with just the wand, I dab some shadow on my lid and pat in with my fingers to spread and blend. Night Glow is a metallic taupe, and those usually work on me as light smoky eye shades. I think it might be tricky to blend a couple of these for a look with many shades, but for a smoky look mine seems to work fine.<br />

I consider my lids to be quite difficult when it comes to eyeshadow. They are very oily, so proper primer is needed to prevent all of the eyeshadow from ending up as lines in the crease. On its own the Lid Lingerie had no chance (well I had to try anyway!) but with Urban Decay Primer Potion underneath it lasts at least as well as powder shadows do.</div>

<br />
Pressed shadows! How excited can a person be over small metal pans with pigment in them? ;D When ColourPop released the pressed shadows I immediately made an order. I like their shades and the quality of the super shock shadows is good, but I don't want to dirty my hands when doing my eyes, as I don't keep my make-up in the bathroom but in a vanity. So I need to get up, go wash my hands, and then continue. Pressed shadows seemed perfect, and they even came with a free empty palette per each four pressed powders you buy. I settled on ten shades I wanted and got two palettes.<br />
<br />
It seemed like a waste to only have four pans in one palette, and I heard some people had taken the cardboard from the palette out to fit in more pans, so I tried the same. The glue is pretty sturdy, but the results are good. On one palette the cardboard came clean off, but on the other it ripped the magnetic plate with it, but I simply proceeded to tear off the cardboard (well, my husband did, because he's super nice and I didn't want to break my nails) and glue the magnetic part back.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiklloqf6rh1ATWBY-t4XZCmhEVWylZMwCAIILS9qTXAORQWIgkQEV5VOaXWFd24JgEFofl74-80lB7kczUz5owmGiW0cLpBbf3qM8nM0-y0WiUeUTVjGk8o6VhgFxDKjv2i_0DfSjkk5nM/s1600/DSC_0394.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="472" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiklloqf6rh1ATWBY-t4XZCmhEVWylZMwCAIILS9qTXAORQWIgkQEV5VOaXWFd24JgEFofl74-80lB7kczUz5owmGiW0cLpBbf3qM8nM0-y0WiUeUTVjGk8o6VhgFxDKjv2i_0DfSjkk5nM/s640/DSC_0394.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Let me start with saying that the palette is very nice! The design is pretty, not too busy, the magnetic area is strong, pans stay easily in place, and the plastic window is small, so your shadows are safe. The window is usually the weakest point of a cardboard palette, but it's needed so you can see what it holds without opening the palette.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Top to bottom: Liar Liar, Cloud Nine.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
All of the shades are of very nice quality. Creamy, lots of pigment, blend easily. They all work well on my green-blue eyes, especially the reddish dark browns Cloud Nine and Cute Alert really bring out the green. The only one I might not keep is Fire Fly. I ordered a couple of skin tone shadows so I could try them and see how they work on my skin tone, as you can never be sure of photos and monitors and all that affects how the shades look in the shop. Skin tone shadows can have the tiniest differences that have a huge impact on how they work on each person. For me Hear Me Out is the perfect skin tone that's just a little bit lighter than my skin, so I can use it as a highlight on tearducts and brow bone. Fire Fly is very close and just as light, but has pink undertones, where my skin leans more towards yellow. There's nothing else wrong with the shadow, the shade is just not for me, I'll always go for Hear Me Out when I need a skin tone highlighter.<br />
<br />
So far my absolute favourite is Come And Get It. It's a warm medium rose pink with a gold shift. Very much like NARS Orgasm blush, which I also adore, and the pink once again brings out the green in my eyes. A light, very easily usable shade, and works with every other shade in my palette, except maybe for Backseat.<br />
<br />
Take It Slow, Let Me Explain and Liar Liar are very nice light shimmery skin tone shades, easy to combine with almost anything and work as highlights if you like shimmery highlight. I usually go for mattes for highlights (on the eyes), so I've used these on the lid and put something darker in the crease and outer part of the lid for a very easy everyday look. Not unique shades, but handy to have in a palette.<br />
<br />
Backseat is more blue and less green than I expected. I though based on the shop pictures that it would be a sea green or more of a petrol shade, but on me it looks plain blue. I'm not good with blues, but it is a lovely medium shimmery blue, if that's your thing :)<br />
<br />
High Strung is a lovely copper. Very red, very metallic. It works as a crease shade with Come And Get It, but I like matte shades for the crease better to get some depth there. It could make for a wonderful smoky eye with green eyes, but I have yet to try that.<br />
<br />
All in all I'm very happy with the shadows and the palettes. Everything works like it should and 5 dollars per pan is a steal for this quality. To me it seems the quality is equal to my Naked 2 palette, but then again the Naked 2 has 12 shades and costs about 50 dollars, so per pan the shadows are actually cheaper than ColourPop. I do appreciate being able to customize my palettes and to be able to take just a couple of pans with me to trip if I don't feel like hauling the whole lot, so the price is justified in my opinion. Shipping was fast and everything arrived well packed and in time. So once again ColourPop has made me happy!Karoliinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06188827517099416861noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706845667701969479.post-7645962875217052682017-02-06T10:49:00.000+02:002021-02-10T17:53:46.290+02:00Where The Night Is + Paradox Eyeshadows<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So my obsession with ColourPop does not seem to be fading quite yet. I've got the Where The Light Is collection also by Kathleenlights, and this time I went for the Where The Night Is version. I really wanted to try Weenie, the rose gold eyeshadow, but since it was out of stock, I decided to just get the set.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really like ColourPop's packaging. It sleek, simple easy and the graphic design has always been spot on. This set is packaged in a cardboard sleeve with bronze toned print on black background. In side the sleeve are the four eyeshadow pots safely in a cardboard box.</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Telepathy. I'd describe this one is the most difficult to describe. It's a very bright metallic gold, but with a green tinge, not as yellow as gold usually is depicted. It's a gorgeous shade, but looks like it might be tricky to combine with other colours.</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Midnight, Porter, Weenie, Telepathy and Paradox swatched on (angry) skin.</td></tr>

I have not yet done any looks with the set, but all of the colours seem quite unique. Weenie is a true rose gold, just like I wanted. All eyeshadows have lots of pigment and apply smooth and easy. For the swatches I applied them with my finger. None stained skin.<br />

A friend also suggested Paradox to me. I do like neutral shades, but for clubs and photoshoots I want bright colours of high quality. I don't have a lot of reds, and thus Paradox was a great addition to my collection. It's a matte medium red, very bright and simple. You can easily see from the swatch above how Porter is more muted where Paradox is bright. Not for everyday looks, but for those times when you really need a red red, Paradox is great! I would like to have it be a bit more opaque, but most likely with a primer that will happen.<br />
