Lumous Friday

Friday was a really hot day and I woke up feeling like a corpse. The morning sun hits our bedroom window and the temperatures are just unbearable if you go to bed late and try to sleep in. I was also feeling a flu creeping on, which is totally unfair since I've been sick far too often and I really don't want to miss Lumous.

Luckily it was nothing a few glasses of mineral water and some hot tea couldn't cure :) I had booked a hairdressers appointment because my fringe was overgrown and I wanted it to look nice for the weekend. My other half also wanted something to be done with his hair, so we got a shared time and were super lucky since it was the last appointment available before Lumous.

Elina from Salon Scissor Sister did an awesome job, as usual. My wild fringe was tamed and my other half got really cool patterns shaved to his undercut!

We had delicious waffles on our way home and stopped at a hobby store. The day was super busy, I still had some flyers to cut to size and the apartment needed to be cleaned so we could have a pre-party without all the guests choking on cat hair ;P

Anyway here's my outfit for the evening! I was very happy how it came out :) The hat and shrug were made by me, the necklace arrived just in time and the hair fall was so light and easy to wear. Also a note to self: do not take photos of black things before a black background! My hat has lovely clock hands and veiling, but they don't show against our shoe shelf. At least there's the Bauhaus poster from our bedroom to give the pics a gothy atmosphere ;P

Hairfall - Made by me
Hat - Made by me, base salvaged from an old hat
Shrug - Made by me, the fabric is from Ikea
Necklace - A is for Arsenic
Corset - Burleska
Skirt - H&M
Stay-up stockings - Can't remember, super old!

I wore my skeleton heels with the outfit and they were a great choice. The club was packed full and I hardly got to sit down all evening, so comfy shoes were a must. I even had some silicone insoles that really help when have to be on your feet for hours! I was a bit disappointed with the corset (or corset top, it has plastic boning and is comfortable rather than sturdy), because I had gotten the same model in black and purple satin from Leipzig and liked how it fit me, so I ordered the same model in the same size made of black PVC. Well, seems like even the inch measurements can vary, because the black corset is one or two inches larger than the purple and black one, and doesn't fit as nicely. It's the smallest size so I can't even switch it for a smaller one, but maybe I can ask a seamstress friend if something can be done. Now the corset closes fully and doesn't contour my body as nicely as the purple and black one.

I got the black leather armour ring from Glitter, I think it was from the mens'
department but who cares ;P It made of sturdy leather but fits me well.

My lovely purple glitter shoes can be seen in the background!

Here you can see at least a part of the hat! It's the one I made last weekend.

Here's a better shot of the make-up, it was super glittery in real life!
For the make-up I used Stella, Taco and Paperdoll from Sugarpill, and a touch of Madd Style Cosmetics' Seedless. On my lips is a Gosh lipstain in 003 Berry topped with Evil Shades Hardcore Lips in Roue. I tried my hand with contouring (just lightly, in case I'd messed it up) and put a hint of black eyeshadow beneath my cheekbones and jaw line. I chose a really light blush to accentuate it, it's China Doll by Evil Shades and some  MAC Strobe Liquid Lotion to give light shimmer.

The evening went really well! We got a few packs of ice cream for the pre party, which was an excellent choice for the hot weather. I liked all the bands, even when I really didn't know them beforehand (except for The Last Days Of Jesus, because they have played at Lumous before). Met many wonderful people, danced some and remembered to drink lots of water! The other two performers were Bloodygrave & Die Lust! from Germany, they played minimal electro, and beforehand I would have said I'm not likely to enjoy them. But the guys seemed to have such a good time on the stage and their music was quite catchy, so I was really pleasantly surprised!

Then there was Chaos All Stars, from Sweden, but I missed most of the gig while outside cooling off and talking with friends. The few last songs I heard were still really good! Especially the Depeche Mode cover, I love Depeche Mode ;)

Today there will be another three bands performing and right now the Dark Market is happening, so I'll be heading there soon! I hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend as much as I am :)

  3. Oooooo so pretty!! The Dark Market sounds so mysterious and inviting! You look gorgeous in your circus striped outfit, especially that ruffled bolero you made with your own fair hands - love it! I have been making a 'fascinator supplies' list on eBay because I would love to make some myself! Do you know of any tutorials or how-to guides for a beginner?

    1. Thank you! I think making fascinators is so much fun, you basically just need some hot glue and a pile of stuff that looks good together ;P I did a small tutorial mostly on how to make a good hat base: http://bonesandlilies.blogspot.fi/2012/06/how-to-make-fascinator.html

It also has some tips on decorating the hat, but you can also save some money by making your own hat bases. Plus you can have the base just the shape you want!

    1. Kiitos paljon! Voisin melkein näpertää bolerosta tutoriaalin, kun se oli lopulta aika yksinkertainen ompelus ja tosi helppo tapa piristää asua :)
