Choosing the wallpaper was super hard! We ordered samples twice and went to two stores to look at wallpapers, and eventually settled for a grey one with unicorns, tea kettles and fancy swirls. It's called Truly Great and it's by Albany, we ordered it from here. We still need to go and buy a suitable glue and other things to get it on the wall, but I'm very happy with the pattern. I would have chosen something more colourful, like red or turquoise or gold, but my other half liked this more and I think it will suit the place well.
As for the book shelf, we wanted to ditch the old dark wood imitation shelves we had, because they were quite low and a lot of space was wasted. The new apartment has higher ceilings, so we decided to build a shelf so we can make it the height we need. This is the plan. We are only making one shelf by stacking two Expedit units on top of each other, it should be enough for all our books.

We also got new mattresses from Ikea, and some shelves to go on the foyer walls to get some storage space for all our shoes ;P
We are moving in a week and half, and I've already packed all the books and some other stuff that's not often used, so I think it's going great! We should have plenty of time to renovate and pack the rest of the stuff, and sell the furniture we no longer need.
Oh I really love your wallpaper - I am planning to decorate our dining-room new and thinking about a grey and black wallpaper with baroque ornaments <3 so beautiful <3 can't wait to see your finished new home <3
ReplyDeleteThank you! I like baroque wallpapers, they look great even with sleek modern furniture!
DeleteI've just recently ordered our wallpaper for the living room from Wallpaper Direct and that wallpaper you chose was on my shortlist! In the end I opted for something brighter so I went for one called Palmiro by Albany which looks just beautiful! We're going to be putting it up next Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI have a 16 box Expedit shelf in the bedroom for all my books and I must say they are really great! You get so much space and they look sleek and stylish too! Good luck in building one on top of the other!
I can't wait to see your new place and you'll be all moved and hopefully decorated in time for Christmas! It's taken us about a year an a half to renovate our living room but I'm just thankful that we'll be done by Christmas too and our new sofa is due to arrive in about 4 weeks! I'm so excited! ~♥~
What a coincidence! Our wallpaper was just dispatched, I can't wait for it to arrive. Although partly because I'm worried we will run out of time and have to put it up with all the stuff already in the apartment, and that's not how I planned it ;P
DeleteGood to know the expedits work fine, I've had only the tiny 1x5 ones before and they seem to be holding up fine. Just minor scratches from speeding kitties!
I'm eagerly awaiting for pics of your living room, I'm sure it's going to look great with the picture frames you have been collecting!
What I hate about Expedit (we have 25 box unit) is that they're so deep and then you pretty much have to get something from behind of other books/CDs/DVDs. If they would be dividing the space then you could have access from both sides but they take quite a lot of space that way.
ReplyDeleteI think I could live with deep shelves, I used to have only shelves high up on the walls so the books were not very easily accessed. The only stuff we use a lot are the cd's and they have separate shelves. But thanks for the heads up!
DeleteAmazing wallpaper! I think the details are so interesting because they are not visible at first among all the swirls. Thanks for the link Ikea hacker, I hack most of my furnitures and I have hacked my billy bookshelves to something more antique style. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I liked the "hidden" patterns too, and it reflects light really pretty, the patterns are shinier than the background. And hacking furniture is fun!
