Sorry for not writing in a while! I packed all I needed for updating to take with me on the trip, but then the internet connection was almost non-existent (in a fine business hotel they suddenly were not prepared that most guests want to use the internet?!) and the schedule was very busy. I was presenting our new game with a colleague and unfortunately she fell ill and there was no one to cover for her so I did some presentations on my own, making it quite hectic!
But everything went well in the end, I just didn't have the time to do any blog updates. Here's a few pictures from the trip, I was in Cologne from Tuesday to Sunday and now went straight back to work on Monday!

The hotel room had a nice fitted carpet, those are unusual in Finland so it felt very exotic! |
|
We did game presentations at Gamescom fair. The fair is HUGE and takes place at Köln Messe,
which has many huge halls. So huge they can easily fit a tank (actually a tank destroyer, maybe a
jab at World of Tanks? ;D) in just to advertise War Thunder ;D |
|
And a second world war air plane next to it, naturally. |
|
This is me and Malthael at the Diablo 3 booth! |
|
A cool statue of an enemy in League of Legends. |
|
Cologne cathedral. I never remember how gorgeous and big it is! |
I barely had time to do any shopping, or anything else than work, eat and sleep, but it was a great trip! I love having variety in my work, so while the occasional week of doing presentations is very tiring, it is also fun. If you like building cities, you might want to take a peek at the game I'm working on, it's called Cities: Skylines and
the announcement can be found here!
I really would like to work in the game industry too! What course should I take in college to be able to work with that?
ReplyDeleteI'm a trained graphic designer, when I studied it was a mix of traditional print media and digital media. I started in the industry with game testing, which is a great way to get in, testing is always needed and it gives you a good picture of what kind of games are being made. I'd say currently (at least in Finland) marketing people and social media experts are needed, and there's of course always room for skilled programmers, so any studies in those areas help out :)

ReplyDeleteIt huge! It nice to go abroad, but being home is good, I missed the cats :)
DeleteWow, a week of presentations! Sounds crazy!
ReplyDeleteThe cathedral is beautiful!
Crazy but fun!
DeleteSounds like you had such a busy time! But also looks like good fun! Interesting fact about the carpet haha I like finding out little cultural tidbits like that.
ReplyDeleteIn Finland we don't wear shoes indoors (even at the office I'm in socks or even barefoot when it was really hot during the summer) which tends to surprise people ;D
DeleteBaron! (the League of Legends enemy) that's awesome. And the cathedral is stunning. It all looks like good fun :)
ReplyDeleteI wondered what its name was, thanks! I haven't gotten into LoL, but I have no doubt that I could spend hundreds of hours with the game ;D It sure was fun!
