The Game

As some of my readers may know, I work as a game designer. I wanted to write a short post on the subject, because the latest project I have been working on has done super well and received lots of attention. If games are not your thing, just skip to the next post!

I'm the lead designer of Cities: Skylines, a brand new city builder game that just came out a few weeks ago. Things have been hectic the last days: the game came out, suddenly sold 250k copies during the first 24 hours and is still the third most sold game on Steam. Journalist have been calling, emailing and visiting the office, and the game's forums have been filled with excited players. Global game media writes articles and most of the reviews have been positive.

Making games is team work, and our whole team is extremely happy about how the game has been received! Due to the amount of articles, you might come across my face somewhere around the internet, but yes it is really me ;D

I've been working as a game designer for over four years now, but never on a game that has done so well. I love my work and am really exited that players have received the game so well and have a good time with it. It's been crazy and I still have a gazillion things to do, interviews and other publicity things and just plain old design work. So if it takes a while for me to answer comments, don't worry, I'm still here, just busy!

So all in all: Skylines is doing great and I'm deeply involved with it!

  1. Wow! I've heard so much about this game (I'm a gamer too). I know SimCity failed, and everyone has been raving about Skylines. WELL DONE!!

  2. I knew this was going to be a big success!
People refer to it as the Sim City that should have been. But in my eyes it's a whole unique experience.
I am glad your game has received a lot of coverage.I also recently watched my favourite streamer on Twitch, streaming your game and we had so much fun!
I just can't wait to upgrade my rig to play this!

    1. We the whole team are super proud that Skylines is considered a successor to SimCities, since those are the games we played younger and spent hours and hours with! Thank you!

  3. I am very happy it has done well after all the work I know you designers put into it! My partner and some of my friends really enjoy playing games and I love watching over my partner's shoulder when he plays interesting ones like Bioshock, and I have played The Stanley Parable, which is about my level of difficulty, :P

  9. As someone who's also interested in working in the gaming industry I wish to ask about your background. Where and what have you studied and how did you get the job? :)

    1. I'm preparing a post on the subject, but in a nutshell I studied graphic design at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) and graduated to become a Bachelor of Media (medianomi). I've worked in the industry for about eight years, starting at a trainee position for a mobile games company in the testing department. I'm now finishing my studies at the Tampere University on internet and media studies and have worked as a game designer for over four years. I was recruited to this position from another company when I was working as a graphic designer.
