Last Rays of the Sun

I've been celebrating Easter by eating heaps and playing Dragon Age II. I say it's an excellent way to spend almost any holiday ;P Today my other half and me did a quick photoshoot in the living room just before the sun went down (well, so low the opposite building covers it, but still). I wore Concrete Minerals Jezebel smoky eyes and Gosh lipstain in Berry, with some Evil Shades China Doll blush.

By the way, the lace body and hotpants cost 2,5 euro from the fleamarket, both excellent finds! I haven't been kind to the body and it has a small tear on the side, but it's easily fixed. The necklace is from Seppälä and cost 3 euro, if I remember correctly. Earrings are from eBay and the shoes by Iron Fist.

On to the pictures!

This one is my favourite, also featuring Nana's ass.

Möttönen liked the sunny sofa also.

Here you can also see my Iron Fist shoes!

The batteries in the flash were running out, resulting in dramatic pictures.

L'Oreal ColorAppeal Trio Look

Today I used one of my favourite (and oldest) palettes, L'Oreal ColorAppeal Trio Pro in 323 Smoky Chestnut. It's a eyeshadow trio in brown shades.

Mine is quite worn, it's about four years old, but it still seems to be available. Still, nothing has broken and even the tiny applicators are surprisingly useful. The palette claims to be meant for grey eyes, but it works really well with my green-grey-blue eyes, better than the blue and green eye palettes.
The palette has a light champagne shade with some neutral shimmer, a medium reddish brown (works really well with green eyes) and a cold dark brown. According to the instructions on the back, the lightest shade is for highlighting, the medium goes on the whole lid and the darkest is used instead of eyeliner on the base of the lashes on upper and lower lid.

The colours look too light in this picture, the one with the lid closed shows them better.

I use it a bit different, I put the lightests shade on the browbone and inners corners of eyes, use the medium shade on outer part of lids and the crease, and add the darkest on top of the medium in the outer corners to deepen it. I have tried it according to the palette instructions, but it didn't look as nice as my technique on my eye shape. The colours still go very well together, so you could do many looks with this palette.

I also have MAC Fluidline liner on upper lid and Gosh lipstain in 002 Pink.

Maybelline Super Stay 10H Tint Gloss Review

Last week the new Maybelline Super Stay 10H Tint Glosses came to the department store next to my home, so I picked up two on way way home from work. They seemed alike to lip stains, which I love, and had a good selection of colours. I got the Timeless Plum and Forever Fuchsia. They cots 9,50 euro each.

I've now used both a few times to get the feel of the product. They go on much like lip gloss, and the applicator is one I haven't seen before, a small fluffy oval that's precise when you hold it in one position and can "paint" large areas in another. I really like it, I feel it's easy to work with. The package is kind of blah, white plastic, and it will get dirty easily. Also the stickers with colour name and ingredients don't fit with the curve of the cap and look like they will come off easily.

Forever Fuchsia and Timeless Plum

I chose two cool colours, because I think they compliment my skin tone nicely, Forever Fuchsia is a pink shade and Timeless Plum is a cool purpley tone. The formula isn't the same as lip stains, it's a bit stickier and leaves a layer on the lips, and doesn't last as long. The colour was pretty easy to get even with a few layers. On my lips, lip stains (I've tried Max Factor, Gosh and Lumene) usually last the whole 8h day at work, but Super Stay Tint Gloss doesn't. It's still a lot easier than regular lipstick, since it doesn't smudge or leave stains.

It leaves my lips feeling a bit dry, but you can add lip balm on top even when wearing it. When you first put the product on your lips, you need to let it dry before you add another layer for depth or touch anything with your lips. If your lips get wet, the colour will go blotchy (I sneezed, totally messed up the colour!), but you can just let it dry and re-apply. After dry, the tint gloss has an almost matte finish. The product has a distinct pineapple smell. The colour washes off with just water but leaves a slight stain behind. I couldn't really see the staining on my lips, but with swatches on the back of my hand it showed.

Pros
+ Nice applicator
+ Good selection of colours
+ Less fussy than lipstick
+ Last longer than lipstick or lipgloss
+ Smells nice if you like pineapple

Cons
- Doesn't last as long a lipstain
- Package will get dirty soon
- Is water soluble (but leaves a slight stain)
- Drying
- Smells bad if you don't like pineapple

I'd definitely buy this product again. There's a really small selection of lip stains available (at least in Finland) and this product is a welcome addition. I haven't been able to find any plum shades in other lip stains so this is becoming a favourite.

Here's pictures of Forever Fuchsia worn, thanks to my boyfriend for the pictures! I got myself a new orchid and wanted pics with it, and it matched the lip tint. I'm wearing Fyrinnae Moon Child and Geek Chic Cometics' The Pointy End on my lids. Natural light looks so good in pictures!

How to make Plaster Dia de los Muertos Angels

I saw some pretty painted angels on Etsy, and decided to keep my eyes open for any plaster angels so I could paint my own. I came across four little angels that cost only 0,50 euro a piece, so they all found a new home with me. I started the project months ago, and did a big lady angel before, but today I finished a few of the small angels and took pictures.

What you need:
A plaster angel (plastic or ceramic ones work also, it doesn't matter what colour it is)
Acrylic paints (miniature paints like Citadel or Game Color work very well if your angel is small)
Brushes (a small one for details and a large one for base paint)
Clear varnish (optional, satin or matter preferably)

1. If your angel is made of plaster, dust it lightly so there's no white residue that will mess up your paint job. If you have a plastic or ceramic angel, just make sure the surface is clean.

I didn't take a picture of the angels the way they came, because I had already done the base paint a few months ago, but I found a picture of a similar one on the net. Mine are 12 cm high and came with just a pure plaster surface and had some air bubbles left from the mould.

2. Put in the base colours. You want the angel's skin to be deep black, so white bones will show well, but otherwise you can choose any colours you like. I wanted bright, cool colours, so I had some turquoises, purples and pinks. Don't do any details yet, just make sure no unpainted area remains when you are done. You don't need to paint the backside, but you can if you want to. My angels had lots of bubbles and were missing some chunks, but dark base colours hide that well.

3. Add bones and detail. Do an image search to find pictures of sugar skulls and other Dia de los Muertos paraphernalia to get ideas. I did painted red lips, polkadot fabrics and some bright dots on the faces, but things like flowers and stripes are also popular. If you have picked your colours before and they all work well together, you can basically do any patterns and they will look good. Just leave the skin free for the bones and only paint details on them once they are completely dry. The bones will need two or three coats of paint to be completely white. If you make a mistake, just let it dry, add some of the base colour on it, let that dry and re-do the spot. The little surface imperfections don't really show.

I think the face and the fingers are the most important parts, and they also happen to be the parts where tiny air bubbles are most likely to be. Just paint around or in the bubbles and you should be fine. I was actually happy two of the angels were missing noses, it was much easier to paint the black "nose hole" when the white paint naturally avoided the bubble.
Still missing smallest bones and detail in hair and clothing.

With more detail, still missing depth in the cloth and hair, but bones are finished.

4. After the angel is completely dry, add varnish on top to protect it. Glossy varnish will make the colour deeper, but reveal any imperfections in the surface (mine had gaps from air bubbles). Matte or satin varnish will just protect the surface. You can also varnish the back side, if the plaster leaves much residue when touched. Glue a loop of yarn or wire on the back if you want to hang you angel on a wall.

All done!

Angels in different phases from left to right: two finished angels (the first one looks a bit like the Joker), one missing detail and the last one has just the base done.

This one is my favourite!

Here's my large angel lady. I'm planning on putting the little angels next to her.
I did the large angel earlier, she's about 30 cm tall. Bigger angels don't need as fine detail as the small ones, so if you are in doubt of your painting skills, go for a large one.

Shabby Party Look

Yesterday was another friend's birthday party, but I didn't have too much time to get ready and didn't have any ideas for what to wear. At least half of all Finns are born near this time of year, since their parents have gotten wild on Midsummer ;P I was planning on fixing my hair, but just left it in a messy bun. The party was excellent, lots of friends, enough beer and good music!

We had a pre-party at our place and mainly played with cats and drank some wine. We also tried a new drink, the recipe was from Meagan's blog, check it out here! We couldn't find Blue Curacao, so it was replaced with Parfait Amour, making the drink more gothy with it's fancy purple colour. The taste was superb!

My boyfriend took pictures of my look, I even took the time to change the lens to my camera. The 50mm lens is really nice, it makes the background blurry and doesn't have the slight fish-eye effect the lens I normally use does.

I did a quick smoky eye with Fyrinnae's Madame and Eve's, a black with super sparkly teal glitter, put some Sugarpill Tako on the inner corners and put some lip stain on. I bought two of the new Maybelline Tint Glosses (it was my pay day so I got excited), I'll do a review on them later.

I used:
Fyrinnae Madame and Eve's (from the Arcane Magic collection)
Sugarpill Tako
Maybelline Super Stay 10h Tint Gloss in Timeless Plum

Fyrinnae Madame and Eve's
Maybelline Super Stay 10h Tint Gloss Timeless Plum
Look at the lovely glitter!

My hairdo is done with great care by putting your hair up and keeping it like that overnight.
