This look is from yesterday. I didn't have much time in the morning, so I opted for an easy smoky look with a twist. Livor Mortis by Detrivore Cosmetics was just the thing!
Livor Mortis is black with a burgundy sheen, making it look like a plummy purple or black depending on the light and angle. I feel it makes the green in my eyes really pop! I primed my lids with Urban Decay Primer Potion and padded Livor Mortis on the whole lid and blended the edges. Didn't bother with a highlight, since the shade was so dark.

Outfit of the Day
Here's today's outfit! I recently fixed the skirt, the hem had come off, I think it was glued before, but I sewed it securely with a sewing machine. I think the colour goes well with the purple I currently have on hair. The hair is just a bit too plum coloured at the moment, but I'll see how the dye lasts and fix it with some dark blue if I like the staying power.
I've been apartment hunting like crazy and found two that I liked, but my other half wasn't as enchanted so we'll keep looking. There's one nice looking that we haven't seen yet, maybe that's the one! I'm itching to get to paint walls and choose wallpapers and colours. I guess it's the coming autumn that gets me in a nest-building mood ;P

Jewellery Photos
Today I took photos of a few pieces of jewellery made by me. They are for a shop and for advertising, I don't sell the jewellery my self but through a small store that takes a few items at a time to sell and conventions and other events. I love making jewellery, creating beautiful things is my passion, but I have enough for my self already so it's a blessing to be able to sell a few items now and then, just so I can make new stuff and still fit into my apartment ;P
The pictures are taken in our bedroom with some fake flowers from Ikea. I took pictures last night with just a white background, but they were far too boring, so today I took a bunch of flowers, a pretty turquoise pillow and waited until the light was nice. I took pictures of only a few pieces, because most of the stuff I make is unique, but these give an idea about my style as a jewellery maker.
I'll post the shop link when the stuff goes live, it should be soon! My jewellery line also has a name now, because it needed one to be properly listed in the store. Thanks to the advice I got from the Ladies in Black facebook group, I named the jewellery after the blog. So I present to you, the Bones & Lilies Jewellery!

Ship Ahoy!
Yesterday we went to a burlesque event at Mustalahti harbour. There were performances and lovely hair dos and dresses, and they had delicious red wine at the restaurant where the event was held. I had a lazy Saturday, just reading and eating well before we left for Mustalahti, so I didn't do any super fancy makeup tricks but rather went with a basic smoky eye.
A really fun night, excellent performances and it was so nice to see many friends! Thanks to Jukka for the pictures :)
I wore a dress by Spin Doctor, earrings from ReStyle and a pile of flowers from Claire's. Can't remember where the necklace is from, most likely Glitter.
A closer look at the makeup. |
And the lovely glitter and lashes! |
I used:
Eyes
Fyrinnae Biker Chic (black with blue sparkles)
Sugarpill Tako (matte white, as highlighter)
Sugarpill Saint fake lashes
Sugarpill Buller proof (matte black, for eyebrows)
Face
Missha Perfect Cover BB-cream no 13
Detrivore Cosmetics Pallor Mortis loose powder
Evil Shades Pink Noise blush
Lips
Max Factor 06 lipstain
Maybelline Super Stay 10h Tint Gloss in Forever Fuchsia (on top of the stain)
Here's the dress! You can also see my nailpolish ring :) |
A pic of me and my other half with the Näsinneula tower (and some red wine ;P) |

Photoshoot Look
Yesterday I did a photoshoot for a friend's shirt collection. It started right after my day at work, so I only took pictures after it, and they are a bit worse for wear. Maybe you can still get the idea :) The shoot was so much fun to do, I'll post pictures of it later! My other half was also modelling and he looked so funny in a pink fleece bunny hat that everyone almost died laughing ;D
I used:
Evil Shades Suffocation (light pink with a blue shift)
Fyrinnae Cuddlefish (a blue-purple with lots of glitter)
Evil Shades Banshee (light turquoise)
Sugarpill Poison Plum
I put Suffocation on the whole lid, then defined the crease with Cuddlefish. Since it's so blue, I added some Poison Plum on it's edges to fade it out and make it warmer. On the lower lid there's only Banshee, continued at the outer edges a bit upwards. Finishes with a black gel liner and mascara.
A full face shot, I look so dishevelled since I had just gotten home after the long day and wanted to take a pic of the makeup. I also tried a new haircolour the day before, it's a purple from Elumen range by Goldwell. I found many people praising how well it stays on, so gave it a go. It's a bit too red for my taste, but if it stays really well, I'll just get a bottle of the dark blue and mix it with the purple.
Kerttu, who had designed the shirts I modelled, mentioned that the nearby toy store had some new Monster High dolls. So naturally I had to stop there and have a look, and this it what I came home with:
Rochelle the daughter of Gargoyles! |

How to Decorate a Mug
I saw a picture of a beautifully decorated coffee mug on the Visuaalisesti Vaativa blog (only in finnish, but very nice pictures!) and wanted to try the same technique. Here's the how to!
You need:
A water soluble porcelain paint that can be cured in a regular household oven in the colour of your choice (keep in mind the colour of the item you are painting: if it is coloured, choose a much darker shade for the paint to make sure it shows)
Porcelain marker (optional, but get one in the same colour as the paint if you want to use it)
A coffee mug or another light coloured, clean piece of porcelain with an even surface to paint
Book film (or tape or any sort of thin plastic that has a sticky side)
A pencil
Scissors and/or an X-Acto knife
An old tooth brush
Watercolour or acrylics brushes (preferably nothing too posh, the paint was hard to wash out)
An oven
1. Get all the supplies out and cover the surface
The water soluble paint shouldn't be hard to get out, but you should cover your working area just in case it decides to stick. The mug should be washed to make sure the surface is nice and clean.
2. Draw or print your design on the backside of the book film
I drew the pictures free hand, but you could print out pictures and trace them on just as well. Remember that the image will be mirrored when you stick it on the mug, so if you are doing a text or a letter, draw it backwards. Make sure your design is small enough so you have space to paint the surface around it.
3. Cut the pattern out and stick it on to the mug
Carefully cut out your picture using scissors and/or an X-Acto knife. Peel off the backing and stick the film on the mug. Be careful not to touch the sticky side, the grease on your fingers makes it not stick properly and then paint will bleed under the stencil. It can be fixed later on, but there's a lot less to clean later if the film sticks well.
4. Paint on top of the film and around it

This is for my other half, he wanted a cool pteranodon! |
The size of my mug compared to the picture. |
Cut carefully if you have small details in the picture! |
The aim is to paint around the stencil to make the shape stand out. I painted roughly with a medium stiff brush and let the strokes show. Then I took and old tooth brush and added some spatter on top. If you have a marker, let the paint dry before adding it unless you want the marker lines to bleed (which could look really nice also!).
Paint on top of the film. I chose a turquoise paint which was maybe a bit too light. Might try again with black! |
5. Let dry
Wait a few hours until the paint is dry and remove the film carefully. If the paint has bled under the film, you can use a wet q-tip to gently wash it off. If there are any other parts that don't look like you wanted, just wash some paint off or add more. The dried paint comes easily off with water.
6. Cure the paint

Javan Rhino and Sleepy Hollow Look
I've been busy lately! I went to a roleplaying convention and my holiday ended, so it's back to work now. Here's a look from last week :)
I don't wear blue that often, I feel it makes my green-blue-grey eyes look too blah, but this look came together nicely. It's very simple and fast to do :) Javan Rhino has a gorgeous pink shift that the camera didn't quite capture, but it's there, I promise!
I used:
Sugarpill Tako (brow bone and inner corner)
Fyrinnae Javan Rhino (lid and to blend the crease)
Fyrinnae Sleepy Hollow (crease)
