Shop Shop!

Today I had time to go shopping! It was actually a pretty hard decisions between the Icelandic Phallological Museum and going shopping, but shopping won.

I think I've found my favourite thing about Iceland: the cuisine. I love salmon, and that's apparently a very good trait when in Iceland. So far during two and a half days I've eaten sushi, gravlax (raw salmon cured in salt and sugar), smoked salmon, grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce and enjoyed the hotel's breakfast buffet which boast five different kinds of salmon. I'm told this place is a fish-haters hell, and thus it's heaven for me ;P

Me, a mountain and a truck.

Me, a mountain and no truck.

And the same mountain again, this time pictured when the sun is rising.

Whipped Cream

I like Iceland, their hot chocolate is totally delicious!

Putting the Ice in Iceland

It's currently sleeting horizontally. The hotel is right at the shore so the wind is something fierce!

The view outside the hotel. More mountains!

This psychedelic picture is the outside wall of the Harpa, the congress center
I'm working in during the next days.
So far the things that best describe Iceland are that I've only seen around seven trees in the whole country, and that the Icelandic word for chocolate is almost the same as in Finnish. The language also has a similar note as Finnish, so the place kinda feels like home. I'm regretting not taking pretty shoes with me, since there's basically no snow or ice on the ground (unlike in Finland).

This is Iceland

I took a couple of pictures on the way from the Keflavik airport to the hotel in Reykjavik. Iceland looks like another planet, just this black volcanic rock, no trees, and tiny houses here and there. Gorgeous!

These were taken around four o'clock and it was already getting dark. Now it's soon nine and it's still pitch black outside! So much for the wonderful view from the hotel's breakfast restaurant, all you could see was darkness ;P

Plum and Blue Look

Here's my look from Friday! I spent the weekend participating in the Global Game Jam 2013, where people around the world made games in just 48 hours. Very fun and here's a link to the game my team made, it's an exercise game for Android phones called PaceQuest.

I wanted to do a cool purple and blue look Sugarpill Cosmetics shared on Facebook (I'm sorry, I can't find the link!).

I used:
Sugarpill Poison Plum (a warm plum purple, in the crease and blended upwards, also on lower lid)
Sugarpill Afterparty (a bright blue, on the lid and on the lower lashline)
Sugarpill Tako (a plain matte white, on the inner corners and brow bone)

I tried to get a full face shot, but it was hard with the lens I had on.
This one was still a nice looking shot!

Now I'm packing my suitcase to leave for Iceland! I'll be on a business trip until Sunday, it's going to be busy but I packed my laptop so I can update the blog if I have any spare time. I'm also preparing a giveaway to celebrate my blog's birthday and 400 readers, so I'll keep my eyes open for some exotic Icelandic goodies to get you guys!

Fyrinnae Browns & Taupes Part III

The last part of the Browns & Taupes posts :) I still have lots of other Fyrinnae shadows I could swatch later on.

Sacred, Platinumand Druid Werewolf

Gilded Wings
I'm not too fond of golden shades and I don't think I've ever used this one. It's called Gilded Wings and came as a free sample with one order. It's a deep, dark golden shade, leaning towards bronze.

Platinum
Platinum is a metallic, very shiny shadow with golden and silver hues. Not much glitter here, but an awesome metallic sheen.

Sacred
Sacred looks much like Platinum, but is more sheer and has more glitter. A cool metallic shade.

Druid Werewolf
Druid Werewolf is a warm dark brown with multicoloured glitter (mostly red and gold). Compliments green eyes beautifully!

Beholder and Moon Child Look

I was very inspired with the Fyrinnae shadows I swatched, so here's a look done with two of them!

I used:
Fyrinnae Moon Child (a glittering creamy shade, on the lid)
Fyrinnae Beholder (a medium-dark cool taupe, in the crease and lightly on lower lid)

Turquoise Look

This was my office look on Tuesday! I used Temptress by Concrete Minerals in the crease and Fabulous by Glamour Doll Eyes on the lid. Tako by Sugarpill is the highlight and inner corner shade. For eyeliner, I used a matte black eyeshadow.

Fyrinnae Browns & Taupes Part II

Here's some more Fyrinnae swatches!

Polar Bear
I was initially a bit surprised by this colour, because I thought it would be lighter and, well, less golden. Now I've learned how to use it, and it's a great pair with plummy purples! Polar Bear is a light golden shade.

Snow Leopard
Snow Leopard has a satin finish, and it's a warm medium brown with some cool golden shimmer.

Damn Paladins
A super pretty light taupe! Damn Paladins has a brown-grey base with a blue shift that isn't too bold. Works well for everyday looks.

Beholder
Another medium taupe, the Beholder has more sparkle than Snow Leopard and is cooler.

Koala
Koala is also of medium lightness, but has a very nice satin finish with a dusty pink shift. This one works great on my pale skin!

Fyrinnae Browns & Taupes Part I

I like browns and taupes a lot, so naturally I have quite a few. I decided to swatch my Fyrinnae one's first, because they are just gorgeous!

Book of the Dead
Book of the Dead is a medium golden brown with gold shimmer.

Knickers in a Twist
Knickers in a Twist has a satin finish. A medium, muted grey-brown with a tiny amount of red glitter.

Moon Child
One of my favourite light taupe shades! Moon Child is a shimmery light pinkish taupe with multicoloured microglitter.

Shenanigans
This is a gorgeous shade! Shenanigans is dark, with a blackened brown base and golden sheen, packed with multicoloured glitter.

Envy Me
Envy Me is a very usable medium taupe with a hint of green glitter. Good for everyday looks!

A Few Pictures of Our Home

Today I was working from home, so I took a few pictures when the sun was up.

The living room
The living room hosts our sofa, arm chairs, dining table, the TV and the bookshelf. There's also a huge carpet for the cats to play on, they like to jump after toys more when on carpet than on bare floor.

A better picture of the bookshelf. It's two Ikea Expedit units piled on top of each other.

The bookshelf is great! We used to have many cheap dark wood imitation shelves that were also quite low and always full. This one is full also, and there's books up to three rows deep in it, but there was still room for all our PC games and some plushies.

The wallpaper
The wallpaper is actually matte black with a glossy black pattern. It's not pitch black, it leans toward warm dark grey and comes out brownish in pictures. It was a nightmare to get it on the wall, but now that it's done, it's just perfect.

Another shot of the pattern and a Block lamp.

Lights on the living room window sill and a small frame with the wallpaper
my old flat had.

Mörkö enjoying the sofa.

Another sofa corner.

The bedroom
I didn't have the heart to make the bed when I got up, because Möttönen and Nivek were sleeping under the covers. Thus it was quite messy and I didn't take other pictures than this one, where the kitties had moved on to their favourite spot: on the bed and next to the radiator.

The study
The study is still a bit of a mess, as you can probably see from the picture ;P The are no curtains but at least I have a corner of the table all to myself. One day there will be space and every item will have its own place!

To finish off, here's a few pet pictures!

Sleepy kitties.
A red cherry freshwater shrimp.
Orchid's are pets, right? Mine is still blooming!

New Life For Nails

I fixed the purple glitter nails Anniina did for me earlier (they grow out so fast on my nails!) and decided a shorter style would be nice. So I just cut the nails, filed the edges and added another layer of gel on top. I think they came out very nice!

Pictured on the rim of my teacup ;P

Sugarpill Swatches Part II

Here are some more Sugarpill Chromalust swatches! The first part of the post can be found here.

Absinthe
A very unique shade, I don't think I have any similar colours in my collection. Absinthe is a medium grass green with golden shimmer.

Lumi
Lumi means snow in Finnish, and this really is a snowy shade! Lumi is a sheer white shadows with a strong blue shift.

Tiara
Tiara looks very different in the pot than on skin. It's a metallic silver shade with lots of shimmer as is fitting. Quite neutral, I believe it changes to warm or cold depending on the wearer's skintone.

Stella
Stella is among my favourites, it's a great colour for a smoky eye with a twist. Very dark, opaque black base with tons of multicoloured glitter.

Junebug
Junebug has a dark base that mostly looks taupe or brown, and lots of turquoise shimmer and microglitter. I find this shade quite hard to combine with others, but it's very pretty and works nicely for a smoky look on its own.
