Putting the Ice in Iceland

It's currently sleeting horizontally. The hotel is right at the shore so the wind is something fierce!

The view outside the hotel. More mountains!

This psychedelic picture is the outside wall of the Harpa, the congress center
I'm working in during the next days.
So far the things that best describe Iceland are that I've only seen around seven trees in the whole country, and that the Icelandic word for chocolate is almost the same as in Finnish. The language also has a similar note as Finnish, so the place kinda feels like home. I'm regretting not taking pretty shoes with me, since there's basically no snow or ice on the ground (unlike in Finland).

  1. No snow? That's so weird! I guess I've always imagined Iceland would be ... icy! :o)

    1. I was so surprised! I think it's the coastal weather, this is the coldest month but it the temperature is rarely below zero celcius. So all snow melts fast in the city area. And it looked like most of the ground was this black volcanic rock, so when the sun shines even briefly, it heats and there goes the snow again ;P

  2. Oh! Pure envy! I always wanted to go to Iceland. I've read that their prices has dropped a lot so I maybe have money enough to visit that beautiful place soon. Could you confirm that? How do you think the prices are?

    1. It seems like food is cheaper than in Finland (maybe around German prices) but clothes and other items are about the same price. But if you are not a big shopper, it shouldn't be too expensive out here. I hope you get to visit, this country is really one of a kind :)

    2. I got more info! Apparently the current prices are around 80% less than the prices before the financial collapse a few years ago. So compared to that, it's very cheap :)
